Gold Heart Award Luncheon honours Pete
St. John
On November 8, 2009 - Variety Ireland honoured
the legendary songwriter Pete St. John, at The Grand Hotel, Malahide,
Co. Dublin.
The Tara suite was packed at the Variety Gold Heart
Luncheon where Pete St. John received The Gold Heart Award
for his contribution to Irish Music and Song. His family,
many friends and entertainers were there to celebrate and witness
Pete St. John’s delight at accepting the Award presented by
Chief Barker Kevin Wall and Betty Wall.
Yvonne Loftus Kelly a vice President of Variety
was honoured to paint and present a portrait of Pete St. John showing
a handsome Gentleman with the fields of Athenry in the background.
W e were delighted to hear his band play and sing
some of the songs from the “Pete St. John song Book”
- with special guests including Cathy Nugent, Sonny Knowles Brian
Hoey and Derek Davis.
It was wonderful to hear Pete St. John reciting
his songs and poems with great poetic emotion. The words of his
ever popular song “Dublin in the Rare ‘oul Times",
were printed on each table mat and Pete autographed same for his
enthusiastic fans to take home as a souvenir of the event.
